Greek Greeks

Beginning in May of 2019, I was elected as the Vice President of Programming for Green Geeks at the University of Florida.  This position entailed coordinating with other members of the executive board to develop our greek community's capacity for implementing sustainable changes. In addition to coordinating the 50 representatives from various chapters, my team and I organized events for all 5,000+ students participating in greek life.

This position was an excellent learning experience reading elements of sustainability. More importantly, I gained valuable experience in collaborating and communicating with community actors. Our efforts required the cooperation of University staff, students, and local businesses. These partnerships allowed for maximizing our impact and effectiveness across Gainesville.

Strong Roots Movement

In August of 2019 I joined Strong Roots Movement (SRM) as a community outreach board member. As an organization, we work to install and maintain garden beds in at risk youth centers across Gainesville, FL. In addition to installing these garden beds, we plant vegetables and educate the youth about the importance of nutrition. Our primary goal is to combat food deserts in these underserved communities.

Working with this organization aided in my knowledge of curriculum development and communicating with at-risk youth who face extensive adversity.
