Association for Integration and Migration

Research & Project Development Intern

From January until May of 2019 I had the pleasure of interning with the Association for Integration and Migration (SIMI) in Prague, Czech Republic. This opportunity was unique in that I was not only able to work with a well known NGO, but also work in an international setting with a diverse staff. This offered a platform for experience in intercultural communication in addition to many other skills.

In this position, my primary job was researching a variety of topics and synthesizing my results. Most notably, this included preparing a study visit of experts on migrant integration to Canada and the submission of a shadow report to the UN Committee for Racial Discrimination within the periodical review of the Czech Republic´s commitments in the respective area of human rights. This research encouraged me to think abstractly regarding what elements may be important when conducting an international research study. Similarly, working with the United Nations provided excellent insight into international frameworks for collaboration. Also, as an Intern for SIMI I had the opportunity to attend several professional workshops, conferences, and roundtables regarding issues such as the lasting effects of communism particularly as it pertains to the feminist movement in Central Europe.
