PACE Center for Girls

Classroom Tutor

Since beginning my time at PACE, I have had incredible opportunities to work with at risk girls. In order for girls to be placed in this center, PACE staff must be able to identify multiple risk factors. Additionally, the girls must want to attend the program and have the support of their legal guardian(s).  PACE is a supplementary school in which girls attend in place of their zoned public school. My role here entails working in a social studies classroom supporting students who struggled with academic material.

This has been a valuable learning experience in many capacities. Not only has it provided a route of exploring the non profit industry in my own community, but it has also provided a preview into classroom management. Because the center is designed for girls struggling in school, there are often challenging classroom dynamics. Being in this environment has aided in the development of my classroom management skills in addition to my communication skills and overall ability to work with youth. I plan to continue working with the center until my graduation in May. I look forward to all this position has to offer and am eager to continue learning.
